I write code, keep services online, care about security, build distributed systems, and automate all teh things.

Watching my code do my work for me is the best, seeing the impact my contributions have on the people around me is even better.

Is there a ninja in the house?

While I have worked with many different tools and computing paradigms, I am generally most skilled with:

• Linux and BSD

• Various build tools, including Saltstack, Terraform, Packer, Docker

• Leveraging the power of Hashicorp’s Vault and Consul.

• Infrastructure as code, devops, whatever you want to call it today

• Minimizing technical debt while maximizing value in IT systems

• CI/CD and automating build/test/release cycles

• Python (for small tools, random tasks, and exploring/hacking)

• Shell scripting… so long as I can keep it tidy, simple, and minimal

• Network and host security

• Designing and implementing highly available web-scale business systems

• Network engineering, especially in the cloud (just more code!)

• Automation on AWS, and various other “cloud providers”

• Task scheduling and container management with Nomad and Kubernetes

• Site Reliability Engineering and keeping things online on a 9-5 schedule

• Distributed, decentralized, mostly-autonomous, organizations

Also worth mentioning..

• I love Haskell, but still learning how to get things done with it.

• I listen to a lot of EDM, but love the piano and various other instruments.

• I am passionate about culture, integrity, and ethics, I want to see the best in everyone thrive.

• I believe all online services should be Zero-Knowledge at their core.

• I care about the experience and impact of our actions as they ripple throughout reality.

• On this blog I generally write about devops and code that is interesting to me.

In my offline life…

• I enjoy raising children, and love learning about everything.

• Play, especially outdoors (it’s the only way to enjoy long and cold winters).

• I mix my systems engineering skills with an interest in permaculture, and build resilient and productive natural landscapes.

• It is an honor to build homes for honeybees and learn about the hive-mind.
